Q – What type of fishing packages do you have?

At Glacier Bear Lodge you have the option of fishing on your own or arrange for an ocean charter or a river guide take you down the river maximizing your fishing and relaxation time.  We also have a charter boat for ocean fishing and trolling. {The standard gratuity for a guide is 15%-20% of the entire day of fishing.}

Q – What kind of ocean fishing is available in the Yakutat area?

Our charter boat targets halibut in fewer than 100 feet of water to Ling Cod to Chinook (King) and Silver (coho) salmon just off the harbor in calm water. We can arrange any type of trip for ocean fishing desired.

Q – What other activities area available besides fishing does Yakutat have to offer?

Take a boat trip to view the Hubbard Glacier, Scenic flights around the local area, or this area is a photographer’s paradise – the wildflowers of the summer and the Alaska wildlife viewing and scenery are spectacular.

Q – Do you have boats to rent?

Yes, Glacier Bear Lodge has drift boats to rent as well as jon boats for all rivers in the area and the local lagoon.

Q – I have two sons, ages 12 and 15, that I would like to take to Alaska. What is the best time of the year for that, and do they need a license to fish?

Children under the age of 16 do NOT need an out of state fishing license in Alaska. The best time to take your sons to Alaska for them is during the pink salmon run, (July through August) as this species is plentiful, and can be caught very easily.  We have consistently dependable weather during the months of July through August making a day of ocean fishing for rock fish, halibut, Ling Cod and Silver Salmon fun for all ages.

Q – Do you have fishing gear for sale or rent? 
Yes. Glacier Bear Lodge has a small tackle store with fishing gear for sale. We recommend that you bring your favorite gear but our tackle shop most gear used on our rivers.  All guided trips will have fishing gear furnished during your guided times.

Q – Is there a restaurant at the Lodge? What kind of food do you serve?

We have a full service restaurant and lounge that serves everything from your standard restaurant food to complete dinners with an emphasis on local seafood. Prime Rib is also a weekly feature at Glacier Bear Lodge on Saturday nights. Continental breakfast is available for 7 days a week from 6-9am.

Q – How will I get my fish home?

Glacier Bear Lodge staff will clean your fish and cut to your specifications, commercial vacuum packaging and flash freezing is all included. Boxes are available at the lodge for your catch. These boxes are wet-lock, insulated airline approved for checked in baggage, and hold up to 50 pounds each.

Q – Can we rent a vehicle during our stay?

Yes, we highly advise you rent a vehicle to get around Yakutat area and the best spots to fish.  Glacier Bear Lodge can provide airport transportation for incoming and outbound flights.

Q – How do you get to Yakutat?

Mostly by air. Yakutat is served by Alaska Airlines direct jet service from Seattle and Anchorage twice daily.

Q – What are the accommodations like?

Surrounding the restaurant/bar are 31 private guest rooms, comfortable, clean, with private baths Accommodations are available as individual room with two full size beds and one rollaway cot. Rooms can accommodate from two to three people. All rooms are warm and comfortable. Our professional housekeeping staff will make up your room every day. Linens and towels are replaced as desired.
